March 15, 2011 Executive Met with Minister Webster

Pat, Jeremv and Carey sat down for an informal discussion with the 
Minister of Agriculture, Honourable George Webster. 
Topics discussed include:
• Free range eggs
• Future of the beef plant
• HST
• Funding for the YF group
• Future Program
• Revival of the Land development corperation
We will contine to meet with the Minister on a regular basis.

March Meeting Minutes

1. Welcome and call to order

President Pat Dunphy callthe meeting to order at 8:05.  PresidentDunphy welcomed and introduced guest speak Marty Taylor.

2. Guest speakers:

Marty Taylor, Island TayloredMeats.

Marty explained how he gotinto the meat business.  He discussed hisproducts and that his customers help him learn. He tries new things that are suggested by customers and learns fromthem.  He was very generous and left somesamples of his products.                                                   

Carey Wood, first CYFF experience.

Carey went over her firstCYFF expereice touching on a few highlights. She felt it was a very good experience.

3. Approval of the Agenda

It was moved, seconded andcarried that the Agenda be approved.

4. Approval of Feb. meetings minutes

It was moved, seconded andcarried that February minutes be approved.

5. Old business

-       PEI FAEnvironmental Farm Program Steering Committee. Had a vacancy develop on theboard and wanted to fill that spot with a member of our group. Pat attended onFeb 24.

-       CYFFFeb. 11 to 15. Pat, Carey, Jeremy, Ryan and Jeff attended

-       Potatoday

-       PEISoil and Crop

6. New Business

                -       Board reports.  Pat Dunphy and Jeremy Steadreported on the boards they sit on. 

-       Futuresand Hedging Workshop put on by the Federation. One workshop left. March 15th

-       GoodMorning PEI newsletter is  available throughthe federation. Email John to receive this daily market update and keepinformed about how  our products arepriced

-        PEI FA Awards dinner March 18th CharlottetownHotel. Was rescheduled due to a storm on Feb. 25th.

-        Moncton Ag Mech show. March 10-12. We have toman the booth each day  2 people perday. 

Cost is $597 per province. There is going to have a raffleeach day and give away promotional items from the Maritime YF groups.

-       AtlanticOYF banquet in Moncton during farm show. Tickets $45. They want an executivemember (and guest) from the three YF groups to       attend.No one from the group is able to attend.

-       CurlingBonspiel March 19th Crapaud.

-       Mediaspeak up training being offered by the province on March 24. Kelly Daynard andIan Petrie. Contact Carla Buchanan to attend.

-       CBCradio has started a 5 minute early morning talk show and is  interested in having a few of us on to discussthe YF group, our  farms, and our ruralcommunities.

-       Theexecutive is going to meet with Minister George Webster on March 15th.

Some topics to be discussed are: free range eggs/hens, beefplant, and HST.

-       Pat attendedthe first session of GFII consultations in Ottawa on Friday February 25 andagain on March 8.

-       April12th meeting. Shawn Hill ALUS program, Jen Roper EEFP and someonefrom farm day in the city. 

7. Adjournment

At 9:35 is was moved,seconded and carried that the meeting be adjourned.
